Not that I am just into self promoting my own thoughts, ok maybe I am, but isn’t that what the Internet is for anyway (that allowing us the opportunity to watch people singing into their video cameras in their bathroom on YouTube). It seems ironic to write about promoting blogging on a blog (or maybe it’s a bit redundant) but prior to the advent of this medium, the loose author was left only to their tattered Barnes & Noble journal to get their head ramblings down.
Now with services like Word Press & Twitter there really is no excuse not to spill non-sequeters & share. And as an aspiring writer friend of mine once said, “the key to good writing is to write everyday, even if it us complete crap, you never knpw what you can come up with” and besides, even a blind man can hit the target given enough bullets…

I’ve been reading all these articles and digesting all this information from the Internet and from TV and it’s really got my biscuit’a burn’n.
Here’s the thing- with every version of Windows it’s always the same hype and the same result- big talk and no walk; it was all falls and embarrassment. Anyone who’s spent more than 5 minutes in a IT shop knows [memorized] the installation screens of Win 95,98, ME and XP; they all say faster, better, more dependable and it was just the same garbage regurgitated over and over with no REAL jump in usability [XP was a nice step though]. There were no huge benefits.
Gizmodo posted a nice article, and while entertaining, it just got me going on all the things customers have been told in the past about the previous versions of Windows. With each version, customers have been promised these huge jumps on features and function that was supposed to revolutionize the world- it didn’t.
When Microsoft came out with [that god awful] Vista, it was pushed as the thing that ‘…makes you say wow’. The release of Vista was not the monumental release Microsoft wanted. They were being pressured to release a version of something; anything. It resulted in a super public relations nightmare and they had customers pissed who never thought they could be; getting emails left and right about how flawed this Operating System was. They pulled a George W. Bush and walked the line of everything is fine and ignored the press, the users and the [oh yeah] problems. Their thoughts were just keep pushing Vista- it’ll come around.

So if you haven’t joined the juggernaut Gmail [from Google] you have one more reason for getting and using your GMAIL/GTALK account; GBridge.
If your are using this program, not only can you chat with someone, share files, but you can also share DESKTOPS. The program creates a VPN between you and another person and be able to communicate securely between two machines. Here’s some FAQ’s.
While MSN has this in it’s IM program- I have never liked it. I wish more IM clients offered a generic remote desktop.
While I like this program, and it’s clever use of the GMail account, it’s not support nor endorsed by Google, but you get this with the other well known hack GDrive. But is that really going to keep you from trying it- nah didn’t think so.

Well, one of the 4 is moving. The Missing Link will be moving next Saturday. I wish we could get a satellite to cover his drive down there. He will be in a 26 foot Uhaul pulling his car with his dog beside him.
Just remember to drive fast and swerve.

If you are like me, you want to make sure your identity is spread all around the webosphere. Its like a dog marking its territory and saying “This is mine!” Well now there is a website to lookup your identity to a buttload of Web 2.0 sites. So far they have 68 sites! The website is called appropriately: UserNameCheck.com
I tested it out with my own identity and found there were 21 websites with my username taken. I accounted for 15 of those. Not too bad, only 6 of them slipped through the cracks. Now with this website, I have the ability to take the 47 left.

I was reading a post about ‘Battling for smartphone developers’ hearts and minds” and noticed that the author missed a large audience, Microsoft. He talked about Apple, Google and RIM, but never mentioned Microsoft. I am not saying that it is the best, most glamorous, or easiest to use, it is just the largest player out there. How to you write about comparing a software group and not mention the big boy. I read CNET every day and this disturbs me. They seem to be missing on many articles these days and this is the first one I have decided to write about. I hope to see more complete stories in the future.

As anyone knows that has a PC and lets it run all the time, you have a little monster on your hands. This little monster has a video card, power supply, CPU(s) and hard drives. All these things put off heat. It’s like a small furnace running all the time.
Anyone who has ever been to a data center, or has more than 1 computer in a small room knows, that room is always going to be hotter. In the winter time just sleep in that room with the door closed; you’ll be comfy/cozy.
I found this video and it’s just ‘kewl’, but not only is it kewl, but it would actually save you money- AND I think it would also save you your PC, because heat is your PC’s arch enemy. Heat is breaking down the PC from the time the poor thing gets it’s taste of power. Additionally, you wouldn’t have to worry about the fans getting clogged up with dust! There’s no dust when it’s submerged.
I love this concept as a production model. It’s never gonna happen, but it fixes some issues.
The idea of having a CPU cooled by a fluid is an idea that’s been around a while, but I don’t think many actually think about submerging the whole system in a fluid to keep the system cooled. The cooler a system can be kept the better it performs [there are limits].
Maybe one day you’ll go to the store and pickup a PC and it’s gonna slosh around while your walking and carrying it home. Sounds fun. I’d buy the little toy fish and treasure chest to go with it.

USB External Video Cards and Monitors

I was recently looking at the prospect of buying a another video card for another computer. It wasn’t going to be doing anything particularly exciting, but I didn’t want to waste money on a matching video card for the system.
I’ve been watching and reading articles on USB External Video Cards. I was looking at some of the shopping websites and found a deal on a USB External Video Card; it was $39. For what I was going to be using it for and the fact it could be used on other machines as required for another display, and undeniably XP is going to be around a while, I made the choice to try it out.
Without issue I was able to load the drivers, reboot the system and plug the adapter in and wha-la! I had another display; worked perfectly. It extended the desktop automatically. It had maximum capabilities to do 1280 x 1024 and 32 bit color. The display seems to work perfectly on quasi-stationary information. It’s the performance equivalent to having a VNC connection to another PC over a LAN [that's simplest way to explain it].
Having experienced this I’m optimistic about USB External Video Cards in general; seeing they can only get better.
The greater expectation is the purely USB driven LCD Monitors. USB plug and play monitors are on the market, but the transfer rates and CPU limitations are most likely keeping this market from taking off. I see many people embracing this very quickly; especially in the corporate market. Gamers aren’t going to get in to this very quickly; it uses too much CPU and the frame rates are going to be way to slow.
But there’s an answer to this. We have 64bit CPU’s becoming more predominate in the market and the release of USB 3 [with GB speed] is really going to kick up this option.
I’m going to keep my eye out for more USB video cards and monitors- it should be interesting.
